Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) matches those in need in our community with a team (3-5 people) who can help with those needs. Here’s how it works. Often a widow, an elderly couple or a single adult finds it difficult to keep their home up because of a disability, loss of a spouse or age. We assign a Neighbor to Neighbor team to help that individual or couple on a continuing basis. Teams invest four hours once a month. Their focus is on meeting the needs when they can, advocating and helping to find resources for the neighbor when the need is beyond their ability.

One of our greatest joys is the long term connections that are made between those serving and those served — sharing stories and creating lasting bonds, sharing lives.

JOYCE RAE BREWER

November 22, 1947 to January 24, 2020

She passed away from a a Glioblastoma brain tumor
She was a long time resident of Lents, buying her house with cash about 35 years ago.
She was a 6 foot 200 pound ministering angel to all in need. She befriended the homeless and cared for sick and aging neighbors.
She also was tough in getting rid of the meth heads and drug dealers on her street.
Joyce worked at the old TB hospital as a ward clerk and and as clerk at the food stamp office.
She trained to be a skilled welder and worked in the shipyards and for Precision Cast Parts. Her last job was as a shagger, cleaning out buses for TriMet. Her favorite job was being a bouncer at the White Eagle Tavern, keeping the bikers in line and having a wary eye out for the famous White Eagle Woman ghost
Having grown up in foster care, her home in Lents was her pride and joy.  She was very proud of owning her own home(with a swimming pool) and being financially independent.
Joyce left an impression on all she met touching lives and living big. As one friend said “She had more grit than a truck full of gravel”
Joyce was a ministering angel to those in need. She took care of her aging and sick neighbors and friends. She provided housing to homeless friends. She took water and homemade pear pies to the homeless camping on the Springwater corridor.
Joyce loved animals of all types, especially her spirit animal, the wolf. She owned several wolf dogs including her beloved Tundra. When Tundra died, Joyce chose a tiny dog with a big heart, Susie, who kept her company to the end.
She will be missed immensely by all those she left behind.

This donations request was made by Joyce.
During her lifetime we helped her by getting a ramp installed so she could get back into her home after her surgery.
